Update on TAFE Final Assignment

As you might remember I'm making a top and pants for my final assignment.
My inspiration is (vintage) picnics, holidays and days at the beach, ice creams and friends getting together.
Here is my inspiration board:

It's to be a casual but smart outfit for tossing balls in and sitting around with friends.

I am up to putting in the invisible zip in the pants, hemming the sleeves and bottom hem on the top and on the pants.
It should be finished this Thursday in class.

Here's some shots to show you how it's going.

I don't want it all too matchy so I've added the tiniest bit of the check to the top.

Did you know that you can put two threads through the eye of a single needle to do a nice top stitch?
I did that down the side of the pants just for a little bit of extra embellishment. See Above.

I've chosen a gorgeous 1950s crisp cotton with brown painted circles for the pants.

Two cute pockets with pom poms on the front - or back or not really decided yet and the pants also have contrast facing

What I discovered from this exercise is this:

* I love bias binding - making my own, love sewing it on and love the look of it.

 * Gathering sleeves and getting them to look identical is harder than you think.
Wish me luck getting that zip in first go?
